Mothers and newborns in Nairobi’s informal settlements often rely on unregistered private health facilities—limiting access to quality maternal and newborn healthcare. Our latest study, published in Discover Health Systems, explores the barriers preventing facility registration in Dagoretti and Starehe sub-counties, identifying financial, operational, and professional challenges that keep facilities from integrating into Kenya’s formal health system.
This study adds to the growing body of research on strengthening maternal and newborn health systems by ensuring all mothers, regardless of where they live, can receive care in properly regulated facilities.
